KAYAKING LESSONS: 2-Day Class II Kayak Clinic
- This clinic will help you improve on your basic whitewater kayaking skills and build comfort on class II rapids.
- Our friendly professional instructors are ACA certified and love passing on their passion for the sport. Our ratio of 1 instructor to 4 students assures lots of personal attention.
- Our full service adventure resort offers onsite camping and lodging
In this kayaking clinic for advanced beginners, we teach and refine the techniques needed to paddle a kayak safely and confidently on class II rivers. Before taking this kayaking clinic, you should have at least five to ten days previous whitewater kayaking experience.
Whether your goal is to use class II as a stepping stone to kayaking more difficult whitewater or as a destination in itself, the skills taught in this class will serve you well. We work on refining your maneuvering skills, including eddy turns, peel outs, ferries, self rescue and basic surfing.
After a review of the basic strokes, including sweep strokes, forward strokes, draws, and braces, we introduce or improve upon your strokes and maneuvers such as the gliding draw, bracing and edging the kayak.
WHAT TO EXPECT AND HOW TO PREPARE
Goal of the clinic
To help the Class I-II level whitewater kayakers refine their skills, move to the next level of the sport and begin to explore whitewater moves on a higher class of whitewater.
Who should take the clinic
To take this course you should be in good physical condition, be comfortable in the water, and have taken a Novice I or Beginner clinic at Zoar Outdoor or elsewhere. In addition, you should have paddled enough that you feel comfortable with self rescues (wet exits), eddy turns, peel-outs and ferries on Class I-II whitewater.
What will be covered
After a review of the basic strokes, including sweep strokes, forward strokes, draws, and braces, we will introduce or improve upon a few advanced strokes such as the static draws. We will head out to whitewater where we will work on fine tuning eddy turns, peel-outs and ferries concentrating especially on entering micro-eddies, peeling out into fast current , and ferrying across difficult jets of water. We will also introduce wave and hole surfing. If time permits, we will work on teaching or improving the Eskimo roll and applying it to whitewater situations.
