KAYAKING FOR KIDS: 1-Day Kids Kayak Craze

Top 3 Reasons to Go
  1. A great way for kids to try the fun sport of whitewater kayaking.
  2. Our variety of program offerings means you can pursue your own adventure while the kids are learning to kayak.
  3. Our full service adventure resort offers onsite camping and lodging

This one-day beginning kayaking clinic for kids on the Deerfield River in Massachusetts offers children ages 10-15 a chance to learn whitewater kayaking in a fun and relaxed environment designed just for them. Your kids will just love our friendly professional ACA certified instructors and we maintain an instructor to student ratio of 1 to 4.

We offer three levels of Kids’ Kayak Craze to allow your kids to enjoy the level of challenge which is appropriate for them. Our Level One Kid’s Kayak Craze covers basic paddling and safety techniques with a short run of the Deerfield River at the end of the day. In our Level Two and Three clinics we refine basic skills and add more river-running instruction, focusing on eddy turns, peel outs, and ferries on class I-II whitewater.

WHAT TO EXPECT AND HOW TO PREPARE

Goal of the clinic:

To introduce kids aged 10-15 to the sport of kayaking in a kid-oriented way.

Who should take the clinic:

Level One is designed for kids who have never whitewater kayaked. Level Two is for those kids who have already taken level one. Level Three is for those who have taken the previous levels or equivalent.

What will be covered:

Level One spends the majority of the clinic on flatwater learning how to exit and lean the kayak and working on basic kayak strokes such as sweeps, forward strokes, draws and braces. We  play lots of games and keep the focus on fun. In the Level One clinic, we finish the day with a short river run.

In the Level Two clinic we spend the afternoon on Class I/II water learning eddy turns, peel outs, and ferries. We improve upon a few advanced strokes such as the Duffek, Gliding draw and bracing.

The Level Three clinic picks up where Level Two leaves off, focusing on refining basic whitewater techniques and introducing wave and hole surfing and, if time allows, the Eskimo roll.

“Extremely well run.  Clear instruction, accommodating teaching style that set everyone up for success.  Good blend of group and individual attention.  Plus it was fun.  Great introduction to the sport for the kids.  Last night they were very excited about their first day an couldn’t wait for kayaking today.”
